The Marketing Website Generator software runs under most standard hosting services, however we've found wide variations between the capabilities of hosting and will
present those here.
Where possible, we have used our affiliate link to point to the hosting services that are known to work with our systems: in which case if you purchase hosting, we will make a commission that helps to continue to support the development of MWG.
The software, known as a "stack" is fondly known as "L.A.M.P".
Server Requirements
- Linux OS
- Apache 2 Webserver
- PHP 5.2.x or 5.3.x (with warnings disabled)
- MySQL 5.1.x
- Cron - the ability run "cron jobs", which are programs that run on at a certain time. This is used to handle mail, etc.
- Mail - MWG can be a mail-intensive system, if you use the internal mailing system.
- Good CPU power: while most operations within MWG are not processor intensive,
a few operations (notably mail and complex user filters) can require some time to run. A host that limits your CPU or kills programs after a small amount of time (generally 30 seconds) may cause some operations to fail.
- cURL, GD and other "standard" extensions. Some hosts disable certain functions or does not install all required extensions. If this is the case, then some MWG operations may fail. For example, captcha support requires the Graphics (GD) extension.
- Warnings: designed to run on a variety of systems, and recently upgraded from php4 to be compatible with php 5.3, the system may emit "warnings" in some cases. Most of these can be safely ignored, but you can always file a bug report or fix it yourself by joining the project.

Certified Hosting: Fully Supported
- Hostgator Good, all around shared hosting provided. Limits mail to 500 per hour, so may not be appropriate for large sites unless you use a 3rd party email provider. Hostgator Promotion code: 31hostMWG75
Other Hosting: Your Mileage my vary
- HostNine Generally a good choice for small sites, issues with poor customer service, overloaded servers (fixed?) and most recently failures due to mod_security have been reported. If you have trouble instatlling extensions (403 Forbidden), contact support and they will fix the server for you.
- GoDaddy Reported to work. Non-standard control panels can make setup difficult for the newbie. They have disabled some functionality on their servers.
Email Services
We support email services through Gizmos.
- AWeber - Good, all around solution. Downside is they do not support an API, so setup through their "email parser" is a bit clunky.
- iContact - The current recommended email solution.
How to Get added to This List
We verify and test each major release against certified hosting providers, so providers are only added after verification.
If you would like to request that your service be added, please contact the support department.
